Changes to Minimum Wage from October 09

New National Minimum Wage rates from October 1st 2009

The National Minimum Wage increases this month – dont worry if your payroll is processed by PCBS we have it covered! However, if you are not a client of ours you need to review the wages that you are paying your staff?
The National Minimum Wage applies to nearly all workers (including employees) and sets minimum hourly rates below which a worker’s pay must not be allowed to fall. The rates are set on the recommendations of the independent Low Pay Commission and are changed in October of each year.
New Rates
As at 1 October 2009 the rates are due to rise to:

  • £5.80 an hour for workers aged 22 and over
  • £4.83 an hour for 18-21 year olds
  • £3.57 an hour for 16-17 year olds
